My Life in 27kg

Ok, so I'll admit to sometimes (and only sometimes) being slightly on the AR side of life. In this case I've weighed, averaged and estimated what I'm planning on bringing with me to Japan. Being historically of a software development background, I think I'm allowed a few personality quirks and I hope what you read below will never actually be mentioned in polite company.

<Ahem> Self deprecation aside, this may actually be of some help to somebody, and if you act quickly you could possibly be of serious help to me; like if you spot something obvious that has somehow lipped past The Eye of Eric (note the Lord of the Rings reference there... yeah, I almost slipped that one past you, didn't I?)

Ok, so the contents of my rebirth in Japan includes:

This blog is probably going to be one of those continuously evolving blogs, until at least the beginning of August, whereupon this page will be frozen and immortalized for all future JETs to see.

Please feel free to leave your comments below. I'll be honest and admit that I'm childishly enthralled at having an audience, so please, stroke my ego, and reaffirm my infatuation by clicking one of the many social media related buttons to be found at the end of this page.

  3. @Emily: Thanks! You saved me some embarrassment. The last thing I want to do is arrive in Japan and confirm the stereotype of stinky-gaijin! As a result, a toothbrush has now been added :D. I haven't added toothpaste, comb etc since most of that stuff is pretty inexpensive and available, probably even in the airport... so I'd rather use my baggage allowance more constructively.

@Unknown: Thanks for the reminder about Omiyage! I'll add that to the list ASAP!

And like a bad hand of poker, I'm bust... and I'm almost definitely still forgetting stuff!

  4. Take out all the books - buy them from Amazon after you get your first paycheck. Same with the headphones.
Use the space to pack another pair of shoes if your feet are longer than about 28cm - some new/super-clean sneakers for indoor gyms (either an actual gym or just the gym at school/indoors at your school)

In response to the above - you're whisked out of the airport so fast you're definitely not going to be able to buy anything when you get there. But, if you're feeling up to it, as soon as you have a free minute at the hotel you can nip out and find the nearest convenience store. They're open 24-hours, and especially the chain Family Mart has a selection of emergency supplies like that - toothpaste, toothbrush, hair products, shampoos, etc. Even socks and spare undies! ;)
